It helps to know the "codes" for colors. For example, you might be doing a Power Point presentation. You create your images for the presentation in Illustrator. When you create those images you usually use color. If you import your illustrations into another software program you will want to "match" the colors. You can look up the colors you created in Illustrator by looking up the color codes. This link tells you a little bit more about this.
